The alt-pop of Cathy Jain is at its most impressive on her new single, ‘Playfight’. “Playfight is all about nostalgia and the way bitterness can grow within relationships,” Cathy explains. “It took the longest to make but has become my favourite on the EP.” She crafts a sound that is entirely her own; experimenting with the boundaries and barriers of pop music, whether it’s the groove of those electronic drums, the funk of the popping basslines or the warmth of fading, textured synth sounds. Above it all, her voice is as delicate and melodic as they come. Her new EP, spacegirl, is due for release on October 14th, 2022, via YALA. -Dan Peeke.
